Business Resources at the Local Library – Guest Speaker at August 8th Chamber Meeting

Tara Moran, a business specialist who is a librarian at the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library and also holds an MBA degree, was the guest speaker at the regular Chamber meeting on Monday, August 8th. Her presentation covered some surprising resources available to local business owners, including free databases for doing business research on industries, and even compiling consumer marketing lists like new homeowners or residents interested in eating out based on zip code.

In addition, one-on-one services include technology appointments where you can bring in your tablet or smartphone and learn how to use it to send emails, store photos, or use applications like Facebook or other mobile social marketing tools.

Workshops by the Service Corps of Retired Executives run twice a month where business owners can get one-on-one advice from other businesspersons with more experience. A new computer lab is open at the Brookhaven Town Community Center on Herkimer Street. This facility is available to use for training your staff on computer software like Microsoft Excel and Word. It features 26 new computers with a printer and a smartboard for presentations. In addition, language learning software like Rosetta Stone is free to cardholders, as well as 3-D printing classes.

Ms. Moran encouraged business owners and managers to stop in and receive friendly, one-on-one service catered to their needs. Remember that the Library is not just books – new technology and online services are keeping pace with the times.
