Chamber Echoes – March 2018

Our March 12th general meeting was held at Moriches Bay Diner where members enjoyed a delicious dinner from a prix fixe menu. Turnout was a bit lighter than normal but still good considering the impending snow storm. It was another great opportunity for local business people to get together and do a little networking.

Comprehensive, Affordable Healthcare Services for Our Community

We had two wonderful guest speakers this evening – Carlos Ortiz and Trevor Cross, of Hudson River Healthcare in Shirley (HRHCare). Mr. Ortiz, Associate VP of Operations at HRHCare, started the presentation where he explained the purpose and mission of HRHCare and their role in the community. Then he and Mr. Cross, Community Liaison at HRHCare, gave a detailed history of the non-profit healthcare organization and stressed how they are committed to providing quality, dignified health services to the community regardless of a patient’s insurance status. They then answered many questions from the members.

Carolyn Villegas holiday decoration fundraiser

Raising Money for New Holiday Decorations

We then had another drawing in our monthly “Ace of Spades” fundraiser. This fun game is a 50/50 that benefits our holiday decoration fund that will be used to decorate Montauk Highway during the winter holiday season.

Board member Paul Quinn, of Movement Mortgage, conducted the drawing and Carolyn Villegas, Community Relations Manager at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, had the winning ticket and got her chance to pull the ace of spades. Unfortunately, she didn’t find it, but we’ll be holding another drawing next month and the pot will now be even bigger!

Many Upcoming Events

President Beth Wahl reminded everyone of the March 24th Egg-stravaganza at the Wm. Floyd High School. This is a free, Chamber-sponsored event that we do every year. No tickets will be required, and this fun event will be open to the first 400 children. See our website or Facebook page for more information.

She also mentioned that our next general Chamber meeting on April 9th will be a joint-chamber meeting at Coral Restaurant where members from several local chambers will be getting together. This will be another fantastic opportunity for local business folks to meet others while enjoying some delicious tapas at this hot, new restaurant.

Finally, please join us on April 25th at Mill Pond Golf Course for our 5th Annual Chamber Dinner where we will be honoring the tireless efforts of the Wm. Floyd School Board. Sponsorships and journal ads are available. It will be a wonderful evening!
